12 Quotes That Changed My Life

"No one is in control of your happiness but you; therefore, you have the power to change anything about yourself or your life that you want to change." ~ Barbara De Angelis “You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.” ~Zig Ziglar “We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.” ~Jim Rohn “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” ~ Winston Churchill "Life is a dream for the wise, a game for the fool, a comedy for the rich, a tragedy for the poor." ~Sholom Aleichem "Wealth is not his that has it, but his that enjoys it." ~Benjamin Franklin “When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” ~Alexander Graham Bell "A man who dar...

Prelude to A Kiss

Image
How often in the still of the night your soft breathings with sluggish friendliness invade my body and mind when your soul is sleeping next to me with its brown voice trying its best to match your golden complexion. And, making me realize: there is something magical about the way you smile at me with your lips, eyes and heart, about the way your tendrilly cascading curls of raven black hair reminds me of the glorious union of the first raindrop and the thirsty earth, about the way you close your eyes with the disinclination to let the moments pass by when I kiss you drawing the moments out as far as I can.

Few Pages from God’s (Unofficial) Diary

My goal is very simple: I have to create the Universe. I have been daydreaming about it. Finally I realized that unless I have ‘Dreams with Deadlines’ I couldn’t achieve my goal. Hence I created Time today. 10 -43 sec, January 1 Since there is nobody to supervise what I am doing, it should be easy to do my job. My job is to create. Perhaps job is not the right word as I am not sure if at all I will ever get paid for it. Still then I will do my work without thinking about the results because firstly, I enjoy creating and secondly, I have no responsibilities yet. There are so many ways to create that I am a little puzzled. This is not as easy as I thought it to be. Thanks … to ME, there is no competition. There is neither fact nor fiction. Hence everything is possible. I have no concrete things to start with … not even imagination . How can I have imagination without any experience? How helpless I am? I have nothing with me, not even another God or Goddess to li...

Redefining A Complete Man

A complete man is like a joker, capable of stupid maneuvers; who can imitate all those non-stop nonsense shown in cartoon films, who can enact any character from the Arabian nights or can bring Cinderella into life at the bed-time, when he is with a child passing the message: fantasy is the other name of reality. A complete man is like a guide, familiar with the pains of growing up; who can advise about pimples, that appear just before going for a date, who can talk about anything from boxing gloves, faded denims to orgasm when he is with a young man passing the message: dream is the other name of reality. A complete man is like a lover, fully prepared in body and mind conversant with the nuances of  giving and receiving pleasure; who can resist the temptations of release at the point of no return to give importance to mutual love over desire, when high tides of sensation strike the shore of sensibility to declare control as the other name for pleasure. A complete man is...

Rumi's Timeless Wisdom

“Not the ones speaking the same language, but the ones sharing the same feeling understand each other.” “Don’t sit and wait. Get out there, feel life. Touch the sun, and immerse in the sea.” “You have no need to travel anywhere - journey within yourself. Enter a mine of rubies and bathe in the splendor of your own Light.” “There is a morning inside you waiting to burst open into Light.” “Find the sweetness in your own heart so that you may find the sweetness in every Heart.” “I belong to no religion. My religion is love. Every heart is my temple.” "Tell me, is sugar sweeter Or He who makes sugar cane? Beauty of the moon is better Or He who makes it wax and wane?" “I am so close, I may look distant. So completely mixed with you, I may look separate. So out in the open, I appear hidden. So silent, because I am constantly talking with you.” “I am in Love with Love and Love is in love with me. My body is in Love with the soul and the soul is in Love with my...

Have you achieved freedom?

Freedom is not doing whatever you want to do anytime. Freedom is being able to do anytime what you love to do. Whatever you want to do may bring you temporary happiness, but not long lasting peace. Whatever you love to do always brings you peace. Once you know what you love to do and can put your full focus into it, it will bring you both peace and prosperity. Then you will not be troubled by either guilt of underachievement or worry of uncertain future. That makes you free of the limitations of your circumstances. When every individual achieves this freedom, the society and the world will be automatically peaceful and prosperous where nobody competes with others, but only compete with one’s yesterday self. The greatest illusion in life is to think that our freedom depends on other people and objects in our surrounding. The point I am making is: our freedom lies in our mind. Therefore, degree of our freedom depends directly on the level of our consciousness. Elevation of con...

Do you enjoy leisure time intelligently?

Image
‘To be able to fill the leisure time intelligently is the last product of civilization’, says Arnold Toynbee. For most people in our time, the term leisure time is often synonymous with ‘ non-working time’. However, there is an important distinction between the two.   Leisure time should be defined as those few precious hours each day when you are free to do whatever you want to do. The first step towards enjoying leisure time is to recognize that it exists, and it does exist for the majority of people today. Whether you are conscious of it or not, you decide each day if you are going to use this precious time or waste it.  Sadly, most people in today’s hectic world have become automatons. They routinely go to work each morning, put in eight hours of work before returning home, watch TV, and then go to bed. This routine repeats day after day! These folks do not live 365 different days in a year; they live the same day 365 times! Then, there are those com...

Searching for My Face in A Crowd

Image
I looked at the red rose, the first person created an imaginary garden for the real rose, he was a dreaming artist; the second person compared the rose with the beauty of my beloved; he was a romantic poet, the third person thought of 6800 Angstorm and the pigments that make it red; he was a scientist, the fourth person concluded : the colour was added to the rose to attract insects to pollinate; he was a naturalist, the fifth person tried to find out whether or not the existence of the rose depends on the observation of the observer; he was a philosopher. I was startled to know how much I had found out about myself just by looking at the rose that I am a crowd, I am as diverse as the nature itself, I am a bunch of strings each of which creates a divine music, yet, I am a bunch of contradictions put into well-defined Pandora's boxes. When I was searching for my face in this crowd wondering either I am all the faces or n...

How to live as if there were no tomorrow?

Image
In the previous post, I discussed how to use fear of death as a motivation to live life to the fullest. In this post, I discuss what it means to live life to the fullest on daily basis. Living life to the fullest means living today in such a way that you will not regret if you die tomorrow. In essence, it is living your dreams today than deferring it to a later date. It is possible to live such a life by sincerely  following these  five steps: 1.   Live one day at a time : Learn and plan on a long term basis, but act on a short term basis. Although I have ideas of my annual goals, I usually plan life on a weekly basis. One week is long enough to live with purpose and creativity but not too long to lose focus. Once the planning for the week is done on a Sunday evening, I act on a daily basis. When we live our today fully, it automatically makes our yesterdays memorable and tomorrows hopeful. The challenge is to live today to the fullest according to the poin...

How to benefit from fear of death?

Image
At a certain point in life, almost all people are afraid of death. That point in life is an experience or a realisation which makes death appear less abstract and more personal . It is more common to have this fear in midlife when one realises that the number of birthdays left is less than the number of birthdays passed. Fear of death can be crippling unless one knows how to benefit from it by using that fear constructively . The following quote by Mark Twain captures the essence of how to do so. The idea is to use fear of death as a motivation to live life to the fullest. Since one does not know when death can strike, one can start every day by feeling thankful to be alive than taking life for granted. It helps to do so when one realises that millions of people around the world do not make it to a new day! Fear of death can make one truly grateful to life and everything in it. Once one realises how every new day is a gift from life, one can do one's best to live every sin...

Are you seeking love?

Image
Everyone wants to love and be loved. Sincere love brings maximum happiness to one's life. How does one get sincere love? What is sincere love? It is the love that allows you to be your best without compromising your uniqueness. It can come from a person, from an activity, from the depth of your heart or from the stillness of your mind. Should you seek love? Or, should you wait for love to seek you? Rumi said: "what you seek is seeking you". So, you can only prepare yourself to receive what you are seeking when it arrives. How do you prepare yourself for love? The following quote by Rumi gives an answer.

Are you resisting your dreams?

Image
Do not resist your dreams. Let life flow  with blood  on concrete floor of reality to an open space called freedom, even if your body is melting like butter on a hot day. Preserve your freedom, do not resist your dreams. Do not resist your dreams. Let the sunshine of wisdom reach  the darkest spot within you through the slit cut at the throat of your experience even if your hands are tied, legs shackled, vision blurred. Nurture thoughts that make you unique, do not resist your dreams. Do not resist your dreams. Let your spirit rise competing with high tides of the sea to touch the faraway moon even if you have only moon's reflection on your quivering breast, framed with molten passion. Love and be loved, do not resist your dreams.

Is your story similar to my story?

Image
"Whoever you are, there is some younger person who thinks you  are perfect. There is some work that will never be done if you  don't do it. There is someone who would miss you if you were  gone. There is a place that you alone can fill."  -- Jacob Braude THIRTY YEARS AGO, at the onset of teenage, I was entering into my physical best. I was a little better than a hormone-driven ape and a little less than a heroics-driven rebel. Like a wild mountain river, my blood could gush anytime, anywhere. In moments of constructive anger, it gushed upwards and in moments of constructive hunger, it gushed downwards. In general, life was governed by passionate tides in my blood. What caused these powerful tides in my blood? Dreams caused huge tides in my blood. My dreams were mainly of three types: to learn smarter than anybody, to love greater than anybody and to lead better than anybody. In my keen desire and struggle to transform myself from nobody to somebody, I hated to ...

Do you know these classic quotes about happiness?

Image
"The very purpose of our life is to seek happiness...the very motion of our life is towards happiness." ~His Holiness the Dalai Lama “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” – Albert Schweitzer “Life's greatest happiness is to be convinced we are loved.” ~Victor Hugo “If you want happiness for an hour -- take a nap. If you want happiness for a day -- go fishing. If you want happiness for a month -- get married. If you want happiness for a year -- inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime -- help someone else.” ~Chinese proverb “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” ~Abraham Lincoln “Many people think that if they were only in some other place, or had some other job, they would be happy. Well, that is doubtful. So get as much happiness out of what you are doing as you can and don't put off being happy until some fut...

Do you have enough love in your life?

Image
Are you excited to live every moment of life? Or, are you merely dragging along with life -like a leaf floating in a slow stream - without knowing where you are going? Are you motivated and energetic to work towards your dreams? Or, do you lack motivation to put your plans into action?  People who have enough love in their life find living life an exciting experience. They are clear about their dreams. They have plenty of energy to make every day of life special for them and for their loved ones. How much love is enough? That depends on how empty is your heart and mind! The emptier is your life, the more love you need. Love is not necessarily only the romantic love. Life can be empty in many ways. You have enough love in life when you have least amount of emptiness in life. You can only judge when you have enough love in your life, because you can only decide when the emptiness in your life is at its least. "Rules for Happiness: something to do, someone to love, some...

Are you living a balanced life?

Image
Give yourself a score for how happy you are in life at present. The scale is between 0 (miserably unhappy) and 10 (ecstatically happy). If you have given yourself 8 or above, probably you do not need to read this blog any further. If you have given yourself 7 or below, you should read further very carefully to improve your happiness. When you have bumpy ride, either the road is not smooth or the wheels are not in good shape. This applies to life’s journey as well. When the road in life’s journey is not smooth, most likely you have chosen a path that does not align your heart with your head. I will deal with that topic in another blog. In this blog, I will discuss how to check the wheel of life to find unbalanced areas of your life. It is wise to check the wheels before blaming the road for a bumpy ride. “Everyone is a house with four rooms: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Unless we go into every room every day, even if to keep it aired, we are not a complete perso...
